How can we collectively grow a greener marketplace?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for April 27, 2007:

Well for one, it is  the whole supply- demand thing.  If the consumer demands organic food choices then more businesses are going to offer those options because there is that market.  10 years ago the "buying green" was a niche market for just a few companies -- ie Whole Foods.  Now  the larger mega stores and every grocery store you go into today, the consumer has choice and prices are many times equivalent to non green items.  Look at  the mega stores like Cosco, Supercenter, etc.    I don't shop there but I have had multiple people tell me how surprised they are of the range of  organic choices available to them: organic baby food, organic milk,  frozen meats.  I'm not sure if they have the paper products that are "green". For those of us who can afford to pay the extra price for some of these products, it is our responsibility to do it.  You  don't think twice about buying 5 cups of coffee at Starbucks but wince about spending an extra dollar on organic produce??? The more people who choose to make green choices, the more popular the option is going to be, thereby reducing the price and making the product more available to the masses.

Greater incentives to the small local farmers who are growing organic more programs getting kids actively involved in growing food during the school year. Suburban and inner city kids have no idea where that food they are eating actually comes from. And what a wonderful gift to give them.  THey learn science, they learn to appreciate and love Mother Earth and the gifts she provides, and they gain some peace spending time outside.
